Samuel H. Kress Fellowship in Paintings Conservation at the
Conservation Center of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York
University.

The position begins September 1 2002 and is renewable for up to
three years.  The stipend is $35,000 a year plus health benefits.
Although a twelve month appointment, the Fellow may travel to pursue
research related to the fellowship during breaks in the academic
year.   The applicant must have an American passport and have
completed the degree requirements of one of  the training programs
with an additional three to five years experience in the field.

The ideal candidate should have a good background in traditional
conservation materials, structural work on paintings of all periods
but especially 19th and twentieth century paintings, imaging
technology and/or a scientific research background.  Experience with
old master paintings is not required although work on the Samuel H.
Kress Collection under the direction of Dianne Modestini will be
possible and is encouraged.  The fellow will assist with the
advanced painting conservation class in cleaning and retouching in
the fall semester and have primary responsibility for teaching a
structural class in the spring semester.  Surveys and other routine
work with various regional and study collections are also part of
the Fellowship requirements.
