Open Forum: Converging, Emerging Standards for Digital Preservation
At the American Library Association Annual Conference Atlanta,
Georgia

In an increasingly digital future, effectively preserving digital
collections presents the library community with pressing challenges.
If you are a practitioner or wish to stay informed on new
developments, please join us for a discussion of new initiatives in
digital preservation on Sunday, June 16, at the Omni Hotel Atlanta,
100 CNN Center, Atlanta, Georgia, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30.

Rebecca Guenther, Library of Congress, will review the work of the
OCLC-RLG Preservation Metadata Working Group.

Janet Gertz, Columbia University, and Michael Seadle, Michigan State
University, will focus on preservation metadata for particular media
types--technical metadata for digital still images and new work in
audiovisual metadata.

Merrilee Proffitt, RLG, will address uses of the Metadata Encoding
and Transmission Standard (METS).

>From two institutions already implementing repositories that are
compliant with the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model,
Stephen Abrams will discuss Harvard University's Submission
Information Package for electronic journals, and Morgan Cundiff will
discuss the Library of Congress's Archival Information Package for
audiovisual materials.

Robin Dale, RLG, will moderate the discussions of these and related
topics raised in the program. Your questions, comments, and feedback
are encouraged at this event.
