The Public Record Office, the National Archive of the United Kingdom
and in particular of England and Wales, has a vacancy for a
Conservation Officer to work as part of a team of conservators and
technicians working on original archives from the 13th - 20th
century.

The successful candidate will be required to apply full specialist
professional knowledge to achieve departmental objectives without
supervision.  Technical duties involve; the conservation of archive
material at a level of intervention appropriate to their historical
value and amount of use.  Other duties involve; self-management to
plan and organise own work targets, involvement with special
projects or committees and where appropriate to give guidance to
those seeking technical advice.

The successful applicant will have:

    *   a recognised conservation qualification and at least 2 years
        conservation experience

    *   a broad based knowledge of current conservation techniques
        and materials

    *   a willingness to keep up to date with innovations in
        conservation & to develop their professional skills

    *   the ability to work under pressure on demanding or mundane
        tasks to achieve targets

    *   the ability to work as part of a team

    *   good communication and administrative skills including
        computer literacy.
