Seminar on the conservation and restoration of arms and Armour

International seminar on the Conservation and Restoration of Arms
    and Armour
Malta centre for Restoration
October 23-25, 2002

The aim of this event is to bring together specialists from across
the field, conservators, restorers, curators, collections managers
and scientists, and provide a forum for discussion and the exchange
of ideas. These will include conservation treatments, restoration
projects, ethics, care of arms and armour collections, technology
and manufacture studies, the problems of complex multi material
objects, future problems and research areas, mounting/display of
armour, and conservation strategies for collections.

The papers/contributions of the seminar will be published and sent
to all participants after the event.

Wednesday 23 October

    The first day will be spent looking at the technology of arms
    and armour, the materials used, analytical techniques and
    research into construction methods and techniques. This will be
    followed by the first session on the conservation and
    restoration of European arms and armour. The day will finish
    with a dinner.

Thursday 24 October

    The second day will start with more on the conservation and
    restoration of European collections. After lunch there will be a
    visit to the Palace Armoury where delegates can see the
    wonderful and little known collections of Malta. The work of the
    Royal Armouries on the conservation of some of the more
    important pieces in the collection will also be on display.

Friday 25 October

    The final day will begin with a session on the problems of
    oriental and far-eastern objects. Finally there will be a
    session of more general issues, and the history of collections.
    In the evening there will be a farewell dinner to close the
    seminar

Booking before 1 September 2002 the cost of the 3 days will be
Lm110. After 1 September the late booking fee will be Lm125. This
includes two dinners, coffees, teas and lunches and the visit to the
Palace Armoury.
