Research Fellow/ Assistant
UKP17,626 to UKP19,681 pa

A postdoctoral fellow or postgraduate with equivalent professional
experience is required for a one year Arts and Humanities Research
Board funded project, commencing in September, 2002.

In an innovative collaborative venture, the Victoria and Albert
Museum, London, and the Textile Conservation Centre, Winchester, are
seeking to develop sustainable solutions to the care and
conservation of modern textiles as they enter our cultural heritage.
Research will involve non-destructive identification and
characterisation of the deterioration mechanisms of contemporary
smart and techno-fibres, including, for example, responsive
composites and thermochromic polymers.

The post offers a unique opportunity to work with a team of museum
curators, textile conservators and conservation scientists; regular
travel between the two institutions will be necessary. Applicants
should have a background in science and materials analysis (scanning
electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry,
mechanical testing, etc.), and have complementary interests in new
fibres and artefact conservation.
