The Anthropology Department of the Field Museum
<URL:http://www.fieldmuseum.org> is responsible for extensive
collections from the Pacific, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and
the Arctic. It is preparing a large portion of these collections for
installation in the new Collections Resource Center (CRC). The
Museum is offering two positions for Assistant Conservators to work
with the CRC move-team and supervisors to prepare objects for this
move.

Duties include:

    Providing advice on the stability of objects in the collections
    and on appropriate support design and materials.

    Assisting the CRC Move-team in collection inventory by
    identifying evidence of mold, insects and other biological
    pests, and evidence of other sources of damage to the objects.

    Conducting, supervising and documenting the removal of museum
    dust from objects in the collections.

    Documenting, examining, and performing conservation treatments
    and procedures on objects that are considered too fragile to
    handle in their current condition.

    Assisting in the operation and activities of the conservation
    laboratories related to the project.

    Assisting the CRC Move-team in other activities as required.
    Work is done under the supervision of the Chief Conservator in
    consultation with the Head of Collections, CRC Project Manager,
    Department Chair and appropriate Curators.

Candidates must have a graduate degree in Conservation or equivalent
training. A specialization in objects conservation and experience
with anthropological collections is preferred. Demonstrated written
and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated conservation
skills and knowledge are required.

This is a one year position with the possibility of renewal. A
salary of $31,000-$35,000  per annum, depending on experience, and a
competitive benefits package is offered.
