Boab nuts

I am researching the possibility of reshaping carved boab nuts by
humidification.  Australian boab nuts have a tendency to crack open
and consequently the nut distorts.  There is very little written
about them, especially from a conservation point of view.  I was
looking for any information on reshaping techniques/treatments used
on similar objects such as gourds and calabashes.  I was also
interested in finding out what conservation work has or is carried
out on the African or Madagascan baobab nut.
