Helmets

A custodian of regimental helmets without direct access to the
internet asks what might be done to preserve some helmets dating
back to the nineteen seventies.

Apparently the helmets have a styrene lining which is crumbling away
from the inside of the metal helmets.

What would people suggest be done to preserve these helmets, should
one attempt to consolidate the styrene for authenticity sake or
would it be preferable to remove the styrene linings and replace
with something more conservation friendly.
