Call for Papers
Symposium of the working group "Archaeological Objects"

The working group "Archaeological Objects", a member of the German
association of conservators (VDR: Verband der Restauratoren e.V.)
organizes between the 6th and 8th of June in Aschaffenburg near
Frankfurt/Main the 1. Symposium as an important advanced training
and a possibility for discussion among colleagues. The main issue of
the symposium:

"The Uncovering [to lay open, to remove the covering layers]"

shall be considered from different point of views and fields of
knowledge. This issue is most important for the routine restoration/
conservation as well as in connection with new technologies and
under account of theoretical scientific positions. Following issues
will be discussed:

    * Uncovering of archaeological objects regardless of material
and date of origin, related to a project, the substances or
        specific questions on the object.

    * New uncovering techniques or familiar techniques seen from a
        different angle.

    * Scientific issues dealing with the conservation and
        restoration of the "original" surface.

    * Uncovering seen in the context of restoration ethics and
        cultural philosophy.

    * Further issues: Research, documentation, conservation
methods as protecting layers and storage.

    * Additional reports regardless of the topic of the symposium
about current or finished activities are most welcome.

The symposium offers a working group meeting, discussion groups and
a festive evening as well. We would like to ask colleagues and
specialists on various scientific fields to make suggestions for
lectures and name experts. Short lectures of approximately 10
minutes are especially welcome to cover the whole spectrum of
relating manifold and useful topics and their practical enforcement.

Either English or German papers are welcome.

A sheet listing all technical supports you might need for your
lecture is prepared and can be ordered. Please contact us or send
your suggestions to:
