Internship at Missouri Historical Society

From: Linda Landry <lll>
Date: Monday, February 18, 2002
Summer Conservation Internship
Missouri Historical Society,
St. Louis, MO

The Missouri Historical Society is seeking applications from
graduate-level conservation students for a summer conservation
internship in the Department of Conservation. The internship period
can span a minimum of eight (8) weeks up to a maximum of twelve (12)
weeks. Starting stipend is $4,000 for ten weeks. The conservation
intern will assist the General Objects Conservator in preparing a
range of objects for upcoming exhibitions including: "One Land; Many
Visions" the national bicentennial traveling exhibition on Lewis and
Clark; and, an exhibition on the 1904 World's Fair.

Conservation projects will include detailed conservation survey of
objects slated for display, preparing exhibit recommendations,
conducting conservation treatments and all related work associated
with the treatment process. Assistance in the monitoring and
maintenance of exhibit gallery spaces (24,000 square feet) and
storerooms within the museum facilities will also be expected.

The internship is open to conservation students who have yet to
decide on an area of specialization, and also to those who may have
established an area of interest in general objects or ethnographic
conservation. This is a perfect opportunity for conservation
students to gain excellent practical experience in a fast-paced and
intense history museum setting. Start and completion dates are
flexible.
