Colloidal silica

I am interested in hearing from conservators who have experience of
using colloidal silica (brand names Syton, Ludox...) in stone
conservation, both as a binder in a grout and as a consolidant for
surface applications.

I am thinking of using these products on a volcanic tuff in a
tropical climate but initial test applications produced problems of
poor control of flow and poor mixing with stone powder filler for
grouting.
