From: Alicia Riley <ariley>
Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2002
Preservation Planning for Archives
South Carolina State Library, Columbia, SC
Thursday, February 21, 2002
9am-4pm

The basic elements of archival arrangement and description-
surveying, selecting, and holdings maintenance- are essential
components of archives preservation management. These activities
exemplify a practical approach to preserving materials housed in
repositories, regardless of size or scope. The emphasis is on
stabilizing archival records in order to extend their life by:
determining the preservation needs of the institution, developing a
systematic methodology for preservation priorities, and improving
housing and storage materials and practices.

The instructor is Pamela Hackbart-Dean, the Archivist of the
Southern Labor Archives at Georgia State University.

Cost: $95 SOLINET members, all categories ($85 early bird, $120
late registration); $135 non-members ($125 early bird, $160 late
registration). Any institution in South Carolina qualifies for the
member rate.

Partial funding for these workshops has been provided by a grant
from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of
Preservation and Access. Any institutions in South Carolina
qualifies for the SOLINET member rate.

This workshop is cosponsored by the Palmetto Archives, Libraries and
Museums Council on Preservation (PALMCOP).
