Egyptian Antiquities Project/IIE/INA-Egypt Project at the Egyptian
Museum, Cairo, Egypt

The Institute of Nautical Archaeology-Egypt is seeking experienced
conservators with a specialization in archaeological Papyrus,
Textiles, or Metals conservation to teach short training courses on
these materials as part of a conservation training program to be
held at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo during the period of late
Spring - late Summer, 2002.  These courses, to be held in
cooperation with the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA),
are a collaborative effort of the Egyptian Antiquities Project
(EAP), the International Institute for Education (IIE) and INA-Egypt
to offer specialized training in the conservation of archaeological
Papyrus, Textiles, and Metals to Egyptian conservators working with
the SCA.  Each course will focus on one of these materials and last
approximately 3 weeks, with a strong possibility that a second
3-week session of each course will be offered.

The content of each course is to be provided by the Instructor, but
should include topics such as health and safety, documentation,
condition assessment, preventive and remedial conservation, tools,
equipment, supplies and techniques appropriate to the specific
material covered. Candidates should be U.S.Citizens and have formal
conservation training as well as proven expertise in Papyrus,
Textile, or Metals conservation.  Previous experience in
conservation teaching or course development would also be an asset.

Compensation is competitive and will include round-trip airfare to
Egypt and accommodation in Cairo.
