Sara Roby Objects Conservation Fellowship

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is currently accepting
applications for the Sara Roby Foundation Fellowship to be awarded
in December 2001 and begin in February/March 2002. The Fellowship
will provide excellent hands-on treatment experience through
preparation of a large number of objects for the Museum's Luce
Foundation Center for American Art, a visible storage facility to
open in late 2004. The collection comprises the gamut of American
sculpture, from folk art, 19th and 20th century bronze and marble
sculpture, to contemporary objects, and modern craft objects. The
$20,000 stipend offers opportunities for 2 six-month fellowships or
1 one-year fellowship.

Eligibility: Recent graduates of conservation programs and current
conservation students as well as motivated pre-program applicants
are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have excellent hand skills
and substantial experience working with art. Previous experience in
conservation is desirable. Fluency in English and good writing
skills are essential.

Application Procedure: Applications and supporting documents should
be received by December 21, 2001. Candidates should submit a
curriculum vitae, 2 letters of professional support and 1 personal
reference, and a short statement addressing the applicant's
pertinent experience and interest in the position to Lynda Roscoe
Hartigan, Chief Curator, Smithsonian American Art Museum,
