Stained glass

From: Sally Groom <sgroom>

I am currently preparing specifications for a contractor to
conserve a 19th century stained glass window. The sole contractor
available who has the level of skills required is a firm believer in
using the copper foil repair technique for cracks in glass panels,
rather than adhesive. He feels that the risk to the piece's already
deteriorated vitreous glass paint and enamel colour would be too
great if an attempt were made to reverse an adhesive join down the
track.

I am interested in other stained glass specialists' views on this
matter. The window is to be displayed under museum conditions.
