National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM)

institutions containing outstanding collections of national
importance in the areas of art, history and science.

Sculpture Conservator
Salary UKP 15,000

    We are looking for a Sculpture Conservator to work in our award
    winning Conservation Centre.  Your main duties will focus on the
    conservation of NMGM's large and varied collections of sculpture
    displayed in Liverpool Museum, Walker Art Gallery and the Lady
    Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. At times, there will be a
    need for you to work on projects involving contract work for
    other museums, churches and heritage bodies.  The main
    collections at NMGM are classical marbles, 19th century bronzes,
    marbles and plasters, and some ancient Egyptian sculptures. NMGM
    also possesses a small collection of oriental sculptures.

    You will have good craft skills in sculpture, together with a
    track record of practical sculpture conservation.  Excellent
    management, communication and organisational skills are also
    essential requirements of this post.  A conservation
    qualification, experience of work with contracts, and knowledge
    of Microsoft Office would be an advantage.

Paintings Conservator
Salary UKP15,000

    NMGM's paintings collections include many outstanding and
    important works and are particularly rich in Italian and
    Netherlandish art of 1300AD-1500AD. The collections also include
    masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Poussin, Hogarth,
    Gainsborough, Stubbs, Turner and Degas together with many
    important works from the 19th Century. There is also an
    important expanding collection of contemporary paintings.

    We are looking for a conservator with the ability to undertake
    work to a high standard. You will be fully involved in the
    activities of the department including a busy loans and
    exhibitions schedule, condition surveys together with practical
    studio work.

    You must have a recognised qualification in the Conservation of
    Easel Paintings together with a minimum of two years post
    training experience. In addition you should have good
    organisational and planning abilities coupled with excellent
    communication skills.
