The Wellcome Trust

The Wellcome Trust <URL:http://www.wellcome.ac.uk> is the UK's
largest medical research charity.  It also supports a world class
library for the History of Medicine and its Conservation Studio
deals with all aspects of preservation and conservation within The
Wellcome Library and its collections.  These include Early Printed
books, Archives and Manuscripts,  Iconographic material and the
Oriental Collection which contains material such as palm-leaves,
birch bark and papyrus as well as collections of Middle Eastern and
Asian origin.

Conservators work as a member of a specialist team and their duties
include working for all collections in rotation, assisting with the
exhibitions rota and providing detailed reports in both areas.  We
currently have two opportunities in this area:

Full Time Maternity Cover Contract
(approximately 9 months--commencing March 2002)
Candidates should have a recognised qualification in conservation
and/or relevant experience amounting to at least five years.  Some
experience in the field of  book conservation would be useful but is
not essential.

Part-Time Permanent Post
(2-3 days per week--to be agreed)
Candidates should have a recognised qualification in book
conservation (degree/accreditation) and/or relevant experience
amounting to at least five years.  A good knowledge of book
structures plus proven skills in paper and parchment conservation
are essential. A knowledge of the conservation of works of art on
paper as well as photographs would be advantageous.

For either post good communication skills, a keen attention to
detail, computer literacy and the ability to work well in a team
environment are all essential.

Salary will be on a scale from UKP21,467 p.a. (pro rata for part
time) plus excellent benefits.
