Book Conservator Conservation Department Public Record Office Salary: Circa UKP16,000 As Book Conservator at the Public Record Office, you will be part of team, carrying out book conservation on a range of archival bindings from 13th century limp bindings to 19th century springbacks, letter books and other binding styles. Technical duties involve: book conservation of archive and reference material at a level of intervention appropriate to their historical value and amount of use, general conservation treatments as required, general refurbishment of books, box and file case making. You will have: A recognised book conservation qualification or relevant experience Knowledge of current book conservation techniques and an understanding of a range of historical bookbinding structures. Knowledge of the chemical and physical causes of deterioration of archive materials, especially books and their treatment. A willingness to keep up to date with innovations in conservation and to develop your professional skills. The ability to work under pressure on demanding or mundane tasks to achieve targets. The ability to work as part of a team. Good communication and administrative skills, including computer literacy.
