Call For Papers
Conservation Science 2002
May 22-24, 2002

The Institute of Conservation Science, the National Museums of
Scotland and the EU COST Action G8 "Non-destructive analysis and
testing of museum objects" are pleased to announce a conference on
Conservation Science to be held at the National Museums of Scotland,
Edinburgh. The conference will provide a broad overview of current
research in conservation science, which will be of relevance and
interest to both conservators and scientists from all countries.

The conference will open on the afternoon of 22nd May and close on
the afternoon of 24th May 2002. It will have three major themes,
"the assessment and development of conservation methods",
"preventive conservation" and a special session organised under COST
Action G8 "non-destructive testing and analysis in the conservation
of museum objects".

Each session will be introduced by an invited keynote speaker and
both oral and poster presentations will be included. There will
also be social events and opportunities to visit local laboratories.

Call for papers:

Abstracts of papers presenting current research in conservation
science are invited. Papers on any aspect of conservation science
will be considered. Preference for oral presentation will be given
to papers dealing with current research which fall within the three
major themes, including ongoing projects where final results have
not necessarily been obtained.

The conference and associated publication will be in English.

Abstracts should include:

The full title of the paper

The full names, postal addresses and e-mail addresses of all
    authors.

A summary of the paper in no more than 300 words. It should
not include graphs, pictures, tables or references.

The organisers will allocate the accepted papers to the most
appropriate theme session.

Papers will be assumed to be offered for either oral or poster
presentation unless otherwise stated.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 December 2001 and
authors will be notified of the result by 31 January 2002.

We will publish proceedings of the meeting. Authors will be
required to submit a final paper to the organisers during the
conference. Papers will be submitted to referees selected by the
academic committee. Papers describing ongoing current research will
be considered for publication.

As far as possible, communication relating to the meeting will be
conducted by e-mail. Please provide an e-mail address when
registering interest in the meeting or submitting an abstract.
