Subject: Internship at the Field Museum
East Asian Material Culture Internships The Field Museum Chicago Summer 2002 The Department of Anthropology at The Field Museum has two research opportunities available for Summer 2002. The Boone Scholars Program for East Asian Studies offers two three-month long internships that allow highly qualified candidates to study Field Museum anthropology collections from Japan, Korea, China, and elsewhere in Asia. Though research with the 1,000-piece Boone Collection is encouraged, the selection committee will entertain proposals to conduct research with other aspects of our world-class Asian collection. Interested candidates must submit a two- to three-page essay outlining their interests and goals. The interns will report directly to the Boone Curator for Asian Anthropology and the Head of Collections in the Department of Anthropology. Priority for acceptance will be given to juniors, seniors, and recent graduates of a public or private college or university in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio, with at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale), and a demonstrated, strong interest in East Asian Studies. Applications, including cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript, and the aforementioned essay, are due February 1, 2002, and should be sent to: The Field Museum Department of Human Resources 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive Chicago IL 60605-2496 The selection committee will reach its decision by March 15, 2002. If a grant application is successful, the Summer 2002 project may concentrate on the Field Museum's Asian textile collection, including rehousing. In which case, conservation knowledge and skills would be an asset. It's a great collection, comprising court and ethnic minority clothing. Information on the Boone programs are available through the Field Museum web site. Interested applicants are welcome to call or email Ruth Norton for further information. The Boone Scholarship Program was established specifically for scholars of East Asian Material Culture. It is essential that the application essay address your interest and experience in East Asian studies. Ruth Norton Chief Conservator The Field Museum 1400 S.
