Statement of Duties: The primary purpose of this internship is to provide a broad-based experience with the intern's chosen specialization of the conservation of Holocaust materials. The incumbent will be given the opportunity to assist in a wide range of conservation activities. This includes: exhibits collections care, condition surveys, preparation for exhibition and/or storage, and analytical techniques and research, as well as hands-on conservation treatment projects. The intern will work directly with the conservator of his or her field of specialization, under the supervision of the Chief Conservator. Summary of Qualifications Required: Applicant must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to DS-4 or four (4) years above high school. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties for the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement. Knowledges, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics (KASOCS): 1. Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of the conservation of museum objects. 2. Good skills in handling and working with tools and equipment used in conservation such as binocular microscope, fume hood, brushes, microspatulas, tweezers, scalpels, etc. and the ability to use them effectively and without breakage of the tool or equipment and without damage to the artifacts. 3. Good oral and writing skills in order to communicate condition, assessments, treatments, proposals and treatment reports effectively.
