Introduction:  The Princeton University Library's general
collections include 6 million printed volumes, as well as
significant numbers of microforms, scores and records, electronic
databases and journals.  The annual budget for the Library exceeds
$30 million.  The Library employs more than 300 professional and
support staff workers, as well as a large student and hourly
workforce.  Library operations are divided among twenty sites on
campus, including a large central library.  More information may be

Description:  This position is responsible for preserving the
general collections of the Princeton University Library by providing
basic conservation treatment and repair to books that are in
disrepair.  Primary tasks include: executing case bindings, adhesive
bindings, pamphlet bindings, split-board bindings and temporary
bindings; inlaying original covers or re-using them; resewing
textblocks; mending paper; and tightening joints.

Requirements: minimum of one year prior experience in bookbinding
and/or conservation; basic knowledge of collections conservation and
essential knowledge of bookbinding; manual dexterity, excellent hand
to eye coordination and precision handskills; ability to follow
instructions exactly and to demonstrate good organizational skills;
ability to safely handle fragile and damaged books, and work with
care, deliberation, speed and neatness; work with materials which
are dirty, dusty, folded, and torn using proper precautions and
health and safety equipment; ability to work independently and
coordinate workflow; have analytical, problem-solving and
decision-making abilities; ability to work in a group environment
and have good communication skills; have working knowledge of
computers.

Benefits: Twenty-two (22) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11)

Salary:  Pay Grade D: $22,883.90.
