Conservation Internship
Canterbury Shaker Village

Canterbury Shaker Village, a National Historic Landmark located in
central New Hampshire, is seeking a conservation intern beginning
immediately. The intern will work under the direction of the
Director of Programs and Collections and a nationally-known
consulting decorative arts conservator. Treatment projects may
involve original 18th and early 19th century painted finishes, 19th
and 20th century linoleum floors, and 19th century transparent floor
finishes. Preventive conservation activities may include
environmental monitoring, cleaning of textiles, storage improvement
and general housekeeping. The internship will provide an excellent
opportunity to gain collections care experience within a real-world
historic site museum, as well as to be involved with nationally
significant cultural artifacts.

Canterbury Shaker Village consists of twenty-five original historic
buildings, dating from 1792-1939, situated on a rolling hilltop
surrounded by 694 acres of fields, woodlots and ponds. The Village
provides an ideal location that is only minutes away from lakes and
trails, and only an hour from the White Mountains and from the sites
and entertainment of the New Hampshire seacoast.

Applicants should be energetic, well-organized, able to work both
alone and as part of a team, and possess excellent dexterity,
attention to detail and good judgement. Training or experience in
collections or architectural conservation is required. Housing will
be provided, and a small stipend is possible for those with adequate
knowledge and experience. Please immediately e-mail a letter of
interest, along with a copy of your resume, and three references to
the address below.
