Reporting to the Director of Conservation Services, this full time,
8-month Project Conservator position will be the primary conservator
of the archival Social Action Collection for the period of the
grant. The Social Action collection includes books, magazines,
papers, drawings, photographs and other materials produced during
the first half of the 20th century.  Treatments will include flat
paper and binding stabilization, rehousing, aesthetic treatments and
preparation for exhibit.  The Social Action project, supported by
the Illinois State Library, Library Services and Technology Act
(funding pending), runs from Oct. 1, 2001-May 31-2002.

Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Conservation Services in
prioritization of treatments and housings; specify and perform
treatment and housings after consultation with archivist and
curators; document treatment using digital camera and FileMaker Pro
database; consult with exhibit staff and prepare for exhibit of
materials; all other tasks or activities needed for the achievement
of departmental and project goals.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in
conservation or its equivalent required; experience treating and
rehousing, flat paper, books and photographs; knowledge of
conservation theory and practice for books and papers; ability to
work independently and as part of a team;  FileMaker Pro database
experience preferred.

Schedule: Full time, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday; grant
sponsored, exempt position ending May 31, 2002.

Salary: Librarian I
