Position at University of Southampton

Textile Conservators Ref: 01A22
The Textile Conservation Centre
University of Southampton

A full workbook and maternity leave cover mean that we need
additional Textile Conservators to work in the Centre's Conservation
Services Department at our purpose-designed building on the
University of Southampton's Winchester School of Art campus.

Our work is very varied--ongoing projects include raised work
embroideries, regimental flags, trade union banners, 16th and 17th C
tapestries, costume, 17th-20th C boots and shoes and archaeological
rug fragments. Hands-on conservation for clients forms a major part
of our work but we also offer preventive conservation training,
conservation strategy plans, surveys and other advisory services. As
part of the University, unique opportunities exist to develop
research interests.

To join the team you must work to a consistently high standard,
whilst completing work to deadline and within estimate. A
successful track record in project management is therefore an asset.
You should be an excellent communicator and team worker with a wide
range of conservation experience and interests. We encourage
specialisms, such as costume, tapestries and archaeological
textiles, but you must retain the flexibility to tackle any project.

We are ideally seeking to employ 1 full time conservator on a
permanent contract and 1 full time conservator on a 1-year contract
but part time working may also be possible. Benefits of working for
the University include an incremental pay structure and an excellent
pension scheme.

Salary in the range UKP17,278 - UKP25,969 per annum. Other Related
Salary Grade 1 / 2.

For an informal discussion about the post you are welcome to
telephone Amber Rowe, the Centre's Head of Conservation Services on
+44 2380 597116.
