National Manuscripts Conservation Trust grants

From: Belinda Sanderson <belinda.sanderson>
Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2001
The National Manuscripts Conservation Trust recently awarded the
University of Nottingham Library UKP12,500 being 50% of the costs of
the first phase of a conservation project to repair the Wollaton
Antiphonal, an exquisitely illuminated fifteenth century service
book. This will involve the disbinding of the first half of the
volume into separate quires, the consolidation of its pigments and
inks, the repair of parchment and the fasciculing of the quires
prior to binding. Other recipients of grants from the Trust in its
latest round of funding include York City Archives for the repair
and rebinding of 'Volume A/Y', a volume consisting of nearly 400
parchment folios covering the period 1327-1547, Glasgow University
Archive Services towards the conservation of the Blackhouse
Charters, and the RIBA British Architectural Library towards the
Architects' Papers Conservation Project.

If your institution is a record office, library or another publicly
funded body such as a local authority, university or specialist
record repository you may be eligible for support by the Trust.
Alternatively if you own manuscript material which is conditionally
exempt from capital taxation or have material that is owned by a
charitable trust, we may be able to help. We offer funding to cover
the cost of the repair, binding and other preservation measures
including reprography, of manuscript material. The Trust will award
up to 50% of a project's cost, and the applicant needs to provide
matching funding. This can be in the form of an in-kind contribution
as well as cash. Grants awarded range from UKP1,000 to UKP30,000.

Closing dates for applications are 1 April and 1 October. For
further information and for a copy of the application form, contact
