Subject: Lined map
Our Rare Books Collection recently has acquired a linen backed map, which folds down into a book--with case binding and all. It is about 5 feet by 3 feet when unfolded, and 8 inches by 5 inches when folded. The map was printed in 1867 by the Office of Land Management, and shows all known mineral deposits, oil fields and the like. Both layers of map (linen and paper) are splitting along every fold line. Every color used for the mineral deposits and other demarcations is water-soluble. The RBC wants to keep the map in its accordion-book format. How should I repair the map?
