Subject: Disaster recovery
On July 24, one of the exhibit galleries of the National Museum of Prehistory (NMP) in Taitung, Taiwan went on fire due to the electricity of light in the exhibit case. After two-hours of burning, the fire was finally put out. Over 50 objects in the exhibit gallery were burn down, including 50 aboriginal artifacts and five canoes. Although the fire wall successful isolated the fire in the gallery, the artifacts in the other exhibit galleries was severely damaged by the heavy black smoke. The NMP is currently seeking for experienced conservators to help us for the artifact and textile conservation evaluation and emergency treatment for smoke damage. The conservator specialized in textiles, artifacts (ethnographic and archaeological artifacts) are needed. Any suggestion regarding recovery cleanup and emergency treatment for object is highly appreciated.
