The Edward James Foundation

This programme based at West Dean College in Sussex has rapidly
gained a national and international following, and is validated and
supported by English Heritage.  To reflect the success of the
programme so far, and to ensure this high quality training is
available to as wide an audience as possible, we are pleased to
announce that from September participants will be able to benefit
from reduced rates for courses.  Standard three day courses now cost
UKP495 (fully residential) and two day courses UKP330.

The first two courses in the Autumn programme are:

Conservation and Repair of Stone Masonry
11-14 September

Course Leader: John Ashurst, Architectural Consultant in Historic
Building Repair, formerly Principal Architect with English Heritage
Principal Tutor: Colin Burns, Master Mason, formerly with English
Heritage

An important course providing an overview of the complex issues
involved in the conservation and repair of stone masonry, including
practical exercises using the ruinette; building stone
identification; recognition and diagnosis of decay; assessment of
condition; repair options and techniques; cleaning, surface
treatments and specifications. Fully inclusive residential fee,

Understanding and Using Architectural Paint Research
9-12 October

Course Leader: Helen Hughes, Senior Architectural Paint Researcher,
English Heritage

Primarily designed for building managers, curators and conservation
architects wishing to use architectural paint research to gain an
understanding of the history and development of historic structures
in their care.  The course will outline the methodology, and offer
guidance on the preparation of research briefs and presentation of
findings. Fully inclusive residential fee UKP495 Non-residential fee
UKP390
