Conservation Scientist The Conservation Centre, Liverpool 1 year fixed term contract UKP16,500 to UKP22,460 National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) <URL:http://www.nmgm.org.uk> is responsible for the management of 8 institutions containing outstanding collections of national importance in the areas of art, history and science. The Conservation Scientist is based in the heart of Liverpool, at the Conservation Centre which was "European Museum of the Year" in 1998. In support of the HLF funded NMGM 2001 project, we are seeking a scientist to provide scientific advice to conservators, and to maintain the analytical equipment and laboratory, for a one year period. The successful candidate will respond to analysis requests from conservators and curators, to study objects from NMGM's collections, and to research new conservation materials and techniques. Duties will also include the testing of materials to be used in new gallery displays. A degree in a relevant scientific study is essential, and post-graduate experience in analytical research relating to museum collections or conservation is preferred.
