Preservation Coordinator
at Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art seeks candidates for the position of
Preservation Coordinator to administer the preservation program for
the Museum's research collections. This position is grant-funded
for one year, renewable as funding permits. MoMA's library, museum
archives, and curatorial study collections have developed into one
of the world's finest research institutions in the field of modern
and contemporary art by supporting the Museum's collection.

The incumbent to this position will coordinate the collections
preservation program by working with staff and commercial vendors
through commercial binding, reformatting, selection of protective
enclosures, and conservation. The Preservation Coordinator will also
oversee disaster preparedness planning, maintain environmental
monitoring, prepare and monitor budgets, and work closely with staff
to write grants. In addition, the Preservation Coordinator will
educate the staff and readers on conservation/preservation matters
and coordinate preservation efforts with other Museum departments.

The Preservation Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating
the move of those collections in the spring of 2002 since the Museum
will be relocating its collections (including the library and museum
archives) to an offsite facility in Queens for the duration of a
major expansion project.

Successful candidates should have an MLS from an ALA-accredited
library school with a concentration in preservation administration.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
combined with initiative and creativity are also important.
Experience in preservation/conservation management in academic and
research libraries and archives is preferred.

We offer a competitive salary with generous benefits. Please send
