This is a 3 month temporary position with the possibility of
renewal. Reporting to the Research Collections Librarian, the
incumbent will carry out restorative and preventative conservation
on a wide variety of rare books and archival material found in the
William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections, and will
provide similar services to other University libraries on a
fee-for-service basis. Techniques and procedures used include hand
bookbinding and gold tooling.

Planning, priorities and deadlines will be established in
consultation with the Supervisor and Conservator in the area.

The successful candidate will have a through knowledge of
restorative, preventative conservation and bookbinding techniques,
and an appreciation of cultural heritage and the physical integrity
of historical artifacts. The position also requires manual dexterity
and mechanical aptitude for the use of fine tools, equipment, and
the application of procedures. Graduation from a recognized Book and
Paper Conservation programme or similar apprenticeship programme
plus related work experience is required.
