Conservator for Special Collections The Texas Tech University Libraries Responsibilities: Texas Tech University seeks a Conservator for Special Collections to assist with preservation activities in the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library. The Conservator for Special Collections will serve as a liaison for all departments within the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, working with the Head of Preservation and Conservation Services to establish treatment priorities for a range of library and archival materials. Primary duties will focus on needs assessment for all collections and the conservation treatment of paper-based collections. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with the implementation of established preservation programs such as staff/user education, disaster planning, or environmental monitoring. Reports to the Head of Preservation and Conservation Services. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree or international equivalent. Advanced training in library or archival preservation and conservation through a recognized academic training program or formal apprenticeship. Applicants must possess a good knowledge of the general preservation needs of all library and archival materials. Applicants with treatment specialization in either rare book or paper conservation will be considered. The applicant must have good organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and excellent listening and interpersonal skills. The applicant must have a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team-based environment with all levels of staff. Preferred: Knowledge of photographic conservation. Salary and Benefits: Depending on qualifications and experience, range of $30,000-$33,900. The lab occupies a 2500 square foot area within the new Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library (<URL:http://www.lib.ttu.edu/swc>) and consists of a book and paper conservation lab, a microscopy lab, a workroom for leather treatment, an area for chemical treatment, and office space. Lubbock has a metropolitan population of 224,000 and is the West Texas center for higher education, agriculture, health care, banking, and business. Located on the Texas High Plains, the city enjoys an average of 270 days of sunshine annually, low summer humidity, and moderate winters.
