Vehicle engines

We are in the preliminary stages of investigating the different
options available for 'shutting down' the engine of an early
twentieth century motorcycle (that is, converting it from a working
object to a static collection item). We are keen to hear from
institutions with policies and procedures in place for this process.
We are also interested to hear from anyone who has carried out or
investigated a similar form of treatment (not necessarily on a
motorcycle) with ideas, information, references and so on.
