Harvard Historical Society

The Harvard Historical Society, located in the rural town of
Harvard, Massachusetts, seeks interested applicants to improve the
organization and preservation of its archive. This locally and
nationally important collection contains approximately 10,000
photographs, documents, letters, books, and journals relating to
topics such as the Shakers, Transcendentalists, Native Americans,
and Harvard genealogy, as well as a large collection of 19th-century
ecclesiastical and educational journals. The collection is currently
housed in a clean, climate-controlled room. The Archives Assistant
will be responsible for reorganizing, indexing, cataloguing, and
entering items into an existing Pastperfect database. Some rehousing
and conservation is also expected. Professional experience in museum
or library studies and experience with Pastperfect software
preferred. This position is grant funded and can be either full-time
or part-time. The application deadline is July 1, 2001. Applicants
