Gilding

Right now I'm conserving a metal monument of gen. Kutuzow in
Boleslawiec, Poland (<URL:http://www.zabytki.com.pl/kutuzow/>). The
monument is covered with 1400 letters.

I have to choose the proper glue which gives me the guarantee of a
long-term attachment of transfer gold to the letters which are made
of rust-proof metal. I can choose between a classic mixture and a
lacquer, so-called Instacoll (on the base of water solvent) which is
produced by one of the Dutch companies. I would like to exchange
experiences with people who were working with this material. Is it
durable when it's applied outside? I would also like to learn
something about structures where it was applied as an undercoat for
gilding.
