Paper Conservator
West Lake Conservators

West Lake Conservators, a respected private practice specializing in
the conservation of paintings, books, paper and frames, preservation
framing, and archival mounting of textiles seeks a second paper
conservator, to join it's staff. Founded in 1975 by Susan Blakney,
AIC and IIC Fellow, WLC has established an excellent clientele of
small to mid-sized museums, historic societies, university
collections, and private clients. Plans are underway to build a six
thousand square foot conservation facility with a 1000 square foot
loft /paper lab. Conservators are supported by an office manager and
computer network (Win95/Novell). Availability of flexible hours and
an informal work atmosphere create an appealing work environment.

Located in the heart of the scenic Finger Lakes, Skaneateles, NY is
a charming, historic, water front village with a friendly small town
community. The singular beauty of Skaneateles Lake has made it a
mecca to generations of vacationing families. We live and work in an
area known for its enjoyable, relaxing lifestyle with ample
recreational, cultural and educational opportunities. Skaneateles
(<URL:http://skaneateles.com/>) is 30 minutes from Syracuse and
Syracuse University and 50 minutes from Cornell University in
Ithaca. Rochester and Utica are a little over an hour away and it's
an easy drive to Ottawa, Toronto or New York City.

The successful applicant must be a specialist in treating fine art
on paper, yet willing to additionally conserve a broad range of
archival paper based materials. Independent research and
contributions to our field are encouraged, as is public education
and outreach. Candidate must have proficient conservation skills
within their specialty, a graduate level degree in conservation or
equivalent knowledge and abilities to work independently. Computer
skills are essential. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Benefits include health insurance, bonuses and a SEP IRA plan.
Interviews may be scheduled for the AIC conference in Dallas. The
position will remain open until filled.
