Conservation resources in Pakistan

From: Zubair Ahmed Madani <zubairam>

In response to the query of Becky Ann Cameron regarding conservation
resources in Pakistan. The only organization that is actually
involved in paper and art conservation in Pakistan is the National
Museum of Pakistan's Paper Conservation Laboratory in Karachi. The
paper Conservation Laboratory at NMP was established in 1983. This
lab. is responsible for the preservation of the manuscript
collection of the NMP. NMP has over 17000 Persian, Urdu, Arabic and
other manuscripts. These mss are dated from 11th to 20th century
AD. A large collection of Persian/Islamic/Indian miniature paintings
is a prominent feature of the NMP collection. The Lab has basic
paper conservation materials and equipment and a small staff. The
Paper Conservation lab is headed by the Senior Paper Conservator.
SPC is assisted by three Conservation Assistants, three Manuscript
Binders and 5 other staff.

Besides of the NMP lab., Art and Antique Conservation Services is a
small Karachi based private organization involved in conservation of
paper objects.

Becky may contact directly to me if needs additional information.
