Cold storage and plastics

I am interested in the effects of cold storage on plastic materials,
in particular polyurethane foams.  I am looking for temperature
guidelines, and advantages/disadvantages of this storage option over
a barrier film with oxygen/moisture scavengers.  Does the material
become brittle after a time? I presume taking an object into and out
of cold storage is stressful, but to what degree?  Comments on
firsthand experience or references to appropriate literature would
be very much appreciated.
