Subject: Chartex
Recently I was called in to make a treatment proposal on a collection of posters that were all mounted on a canvas backing coated with a waxy material. The material turned out to be Chartex and the large posters were uniformly heat mounted on to the chartex. There are no signs of bleeding by the wax, nor are there signs of the paper becoming transparent. Is there any information on the ingredients in Chartex? Can the waxy residue be removed safely with organic solvents such as petroleum ether?
