Call for Papers for the ICOM-CC 13th Triennial Meeting
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
September 22-28, 2002

In preparation for the upcoming ICOM-CC 13th Triennial Meeting,
ICOM-CC is now calling for papers and posters. Although we shall
continue to publish the Preprints in the usual two-volume format of
approximately 150 papers, the process for selecting papers has
changed. *Please take careful note of the new procedure*.

Each author is requested to submit a 1000-word (maximum) description
of the proposed paper or a 150-word description for a poster. The
description must include the title, author and co- authors' names,
addresses and e-mail addresses. It is important to note that, while
the initial descriptions must be in English or French, the final
paper can also be in Spanish. Please indicate clearly which language
you will use for the final paper.

The papers and posters will be selected based on quality,
originality, importance and relevance.

What is meant by 'relevance'? The objective of the Triennial Meeting
is to present an overview of the current state of the art in
conservation through reports by ICOM-CC Working Groups. Special
attention will be given to problems and progress in conservation in
the region hosting the meeting. Relevance of a paper or poster is
indicated by one or more of the following criteria:

    * its relationship to a Working Group Triennial Programme or
to a Working Group's strong interest in the theme, as
defined by the Working Group Co-ordinator:

    * its contribution to the increase in conservation knowledge

    * its potential to promote collaborative partnerships and
understanding between different disciplines or regions of
        the world

    * usefulness and applicability to conservation practice

Paper and poster descriptions are to be sent to the appropriate
Working Group Co-ordinator no later than April 2, 2001. Contact
information for Co-ordinators may be obtained from the ICOM-CC
Secretariat <icom-cc [at] iccrom__org>. The Co-ordinators and the
Preprints Committee will make their selection by May 31, 2001.
Authors whose descriptions have been chosen will then be invited to
submit a full paper or poster and receive 'Instructions to Authors'.

Full papers must reach the Working Group Co-ordinators by October
31, 2001. The Co-ordinators will collaborate with authors on the
finalisation of the papers/posters, rank them and forward them to
the Preprints Committee. Final selection of the papers will be made
by the Preprints Committee in February 2002 and authors will be
notified immediately afterward.
