Storing batteries

George Bailey suggests that dry and cool storage conditions will
slow down the chemical decomposition of batteries. I would suggest
considering sealing the batteries separately in a strong transparent
barrier film envelope (eg Escal) with an oxygen and moisture
scavenger (eg RP-A type). Periodic observation would indicate any
leakage, and leakage and minor off-gassing would also be contained.

For that matter, storing the electronic devices themselves in this
kind of anoxic system might also be of benefit for the plastic case
and buttons, and internal circuitry and metal parts.
