The National Library of New Zealand in Wellington requires a Manager
for its Preservation Section.  This position involves overall
management responsibility for two teams of specialist staff:  the
conservation staff, and the heritage copying services group.  The
former are responsible for conservation treatments, and a range of
other preservation services throughout the Library such as
education, disaster preparedness and response, the housing of
collections, and conservation research.  Conservation staff
currently consists of five specialist conservators, one each in
books, photographs, paper, sound, and archival materials, as well as
3.5 technical support staff. The heritage copying services group
consists of a Team Leader and 6.5 technical support staff engaged in
imaging, microfilming, and photography for both preservation
purposes and public orders.

The appointee will manage the administration, business, and budget
planning for the conservation staff and activity, and work closely
with the Team Leader, Heritage Copying services in formulating
budget and business plans for the heritage copying programmes and
services.  Using a team approach she/he will enable the two sections
to operate effectively and efficiently.  She/he will represent the
team as an advocate for preservation and copying services within the
National Library.

In addition, she/he will participate in the development of
preservation policy for the library, and work in a collegial manner
with staff of the the library's National Preservation Office in
advancing national preservation initiatives.

She/he will ideally be able to demonstrate:

    *   Formal qualifications in preservation and significant work
        experience in the field of conservation
    *   Strong organisational and time management skills
    *   An understanding/knowledge of preservation/conservation
        principles, procedures, and ethics
    *   Familiarity with copying processes and materials, including
        microfilming, digital copying, and photography
    *   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    *   A participative management style
    *   A high level of self motivation
    *   An ability to think strategically
    *   An ability to co-ordinate teams of professionals

A relocation allowance is negotiable for the successful candidate,
should that individual be currently living outside New Zealand

Salary range per annum is NZ$58,829-75,536
