Subject: PARS Photographic and Recording Media Discussion Group
Preservation of Audio Materials to be Discussed The PARS Photographic & Recording Media Discussion Group will meet at ALA Midwinter on Saturday, January 13 at the Library of Congress Madison Building, Dining Room A, from 2-4 pm. The meeting will start off with brief reports from the December 1-2 symposium in Washington on preservation and access to sound collections, Folk Heritage Collections in Crisis. The symposium brought together preservation people, archivists and librarians, people from the recording industry, and others. Reports on the sessions on preservation, access, and intellectual property rights, and the recommendations made by the group, will be presented by Charles Kolb of the NEH, Michael Seadle of the National Gallery of the Spoken Word at MSU, and the Discussion Group co-chairs Robin Dale and Janet Gertz. We hope this will lead to a fruitful discussion of other recent developments in preservation for sound collections, including the debate between digital and analog as preservation technologies, and to suggestions for PARS' role in this area. *** Conservation DistList Instance 14:36 Distributed: Wednesday, January 3, 2001 Message Id: cdl-14-36-012 ***Received on Wednesday, 3 January, 2001
