Conference on conservation of antiquities

There is to be a conference on the Conservation of Antiquities in
Cairo, Egypt 12 - 14 April 1999.

I have not heard many details but there is a call for papers from
conservators, restorers, scientists, architects, conservation
material producers etc.

Main topics:

    1.  Recent materials and methods for restoration and
        conservation of different archaeological materials--stone,
        ceramic, mural paintings, metals, glass, faience, wood,
        icons, manuscripts, textiles, etc

    2.  Treatment of salts

    3.  Treatment of groundwater and its effect on monuments and
        sites

    4.  New analytical methods for investigating the deterioration
        of archaeological materials

    5.  Case studies of conservation and restoration of antiquities

Conference languages : English and French

Deadline for titles of proposed papers 31 Dec 1998 (papers will be
chosen by a scientific committee by 28 Feb 1999) Contributions will
be accepted as Communications, Posters or Exhibitions.

Deadline for abstracts (400 words) 31 Jan 1999 Registration before
31 Jan 99  USD200, after 31 Jan USD250 (participants) USD100
discount for accompanying persons and students

The Scientific Committee will decide which papers will be published.
Authors to submit the full text at the end of the conference.
