Head, Serials Department (Senior Academic Librarian) Golda Meir Library University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is a Research II university serving nearly 23,000 students, and offering 17 doctoral and over 50 masters programs. The campus is located on Milwaukee*s tree-shaded residential east side bordering Lake Michigan. The Golda Meir Library is a modern, centralized library housing over 4.7 million bibliographical items including the 1 million item American Geographical Society Collection. The materials budget exceeds $2.5 million/year. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Assistant Library Director for Technical Services, provides leadership for the Serials Department staff and manages all activities of the Department including ordering, check-in, claiming, cataloging, holdings maintenance, and binding for a serials collection of 8,000 serial subscriptions in print, non-print and electronic formats. Responsible for managing binding budget, and vendor evaluation and contracts for binding. Responsible for oversight and coordination of preservation activities library-wide. Duties include hands-on involvement with daily work routines and supervision of 10 full-time staff, plus temporary staff, student employees and School of Library and Information Science fieldwork students. Responsible for department policies and procedures; works closely with the Head, Monographs Department, and participates actively in library-wide planning committees. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS; a minimum of 5 years increasingly responsible, relevant professional experience in an academic/research library with an automated library system; awareness of serials trends, particularly electronic resources; understanding of binding and preservation issues; knowledge of cataloging and classification standards, including AACR2, CONSER, LCSH, USMARC formats; knowledge of at least one European language. Strong leadership, analytical, supervisory, and communication skills. Desired: Experience with preservation activities in an academic/research library, including disaster preparedness; second advanced degree or course work in relevant field; record of active professional involvement. Salary: Senior Academic Librarian (salary range: $40,289 - $50,361) depending upon qualifications and experience.
