Textile Storage Summer Internship

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is offering a summer internship for
the purpose of re-housing its textile collection. The intern will
be working under the supervision of the museum's Conservator of
Objects and in conjunction with a consulting textile conservator and
museum registrar. The intern will be carrying out an already
developed re-housing plan, assisting with the hands-on aspects of
re-housing including checking measurements, cutting and fabricating
supports, vacuuming, sewing on labels and placing the re-housed
textiles into their new storage cabinets.

Minimum qualifications are enrollment in a recognized art
conservation training program with an emphasis in textiles or
demonstrated equivalent training and experience. Previous
experience in re-housing textiles is a plus. Applicants must
demonstrate the ability to work well as a team player and have
superior organizational skills. Stipend is $3,000 for a 12 week
period, June 14 to September 3, 1999.

Applicants should send a resume, list of three references with
address and telephone numbers, and a cover letter stating
qualifications and interests in this project by December 1, 1998 to
