Chair of Archaeological Materials and Technology Professor of Archaeological Materials and Technology Institute of Archaeology University College London Applications are invited for the Chair of Archaeological Materials and Technology, to be established in September 1999. The Chair is to be held in the Institute of Archaeology, in the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences. The Institute is the largest university-based archaeological institution in Britain, with nearly 500 students and more than 40 academic teaching staff. It has always placed a strong emphasis on the application of science and technology to archaeology, and it is exceptionally well equipped for that purpose. It also has great strengths in humanistic archaeology, with extensive period and area coverage, and a strong commitment to world archaeology. The successful applicant will be a scientist of the highest international standing in a relevant discipline, and will be capable of building up and leading a research team in the Institute that will take its place at the forefront of international research. He/she will also be expected to participate fully in the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students. He/she will preferably be familiar with research issues in archaeological conservation and museology, in addition to materials science. It is expected that a dedicated laboratory will be available to the team, together with the services of a specially appointed technician.
