The new Digital Imaging Laboratory at the Ford Conservation Center is
offering a full-time 11-1/2 month position:

Staff Assistant II
Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center
Nebraska State Historical Society
1326 S. 32nd Street
Omaha, NE  68501

Duties:  Create digital image files from photographic prints and
negatives, manuscripts and bound materials, and all types of
three-dimensional objects in accordance with the Historical
Society's established benchmarks.  Create and track metadata for the
digital image files.  Track material as it goes through the
Laboratory for digitization.  Work with conservators and curators to
re-house material as needed.   Work includes imaging for a current
Library of Congress/Ameritech "American Memory" project, for other
contract projects, and for the Nebraska State Historical Society's
routine imaging needs.

Compensation: $10.35/hour plus generous State of Nebraska benefits
package.

Requirements:  Must have substantial knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
5.0, both Mac and PC platforms, and Microsoft Access 95.  Must have
excellent attention to detail and skill at handling historic
materials.  Knowledge of photography, including studio lighting and
the history of photography, is desirable.

The Digital Imaging Laboratory at the Nebraska State Historical
Society's Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center in Omaha, Nebraska, is
equipped with a Scitex Eversmart Pro scanner with an optical
resolution capability as high as 3175 pixels per inch, Macintosh
G3/300Mhz computers and a Fugi Pictrography 3000 printer.
