Collections Manager The Institute's collections include Egyptian Archaeology, Classical Archaeology and a range of other material from around the world, site archives, single finds and a substantial body of teaching and reference material including zooarchaeological and archaeobotanical collections. We are looking to appoint a Collections Manager to join a team of people managing the Institute's collection as a whole but who will concentrate on the collections housed within the Institute itself. The successful applicant will ensure the effective management, care and accessibility of these collections to facilitate teaching and research in the areas of conservation, heritage and museums studies. He/she should hold a recognised qualification in museum studies or conservation, have experience and knowledge of archaeological collections and collections management and be familiar with computerised museum documentation systems. He/she should have excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively with a wide range of people. He/she should also have an interest in and ability to undertake research. A degree or equivalent in archaeology is desirable. Salary will be within the ALC 1-2 scale currently GBP 17,596-25,375 per annum inclusive of GBP2,134 per annum London Allowance. We are looking to appoint a Collections and Conservation Assistant to provide support for the Collections Manager and for conservation research and teaching. The successful applicant will hold a recognised laboratory or conservation qualification. He/she should have good laboratory skills and experience of preventative, investigative and remedial conservation. He/she should also have good organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and students. Museum experience, familiarity with computerised documentation systems and photographic skills would be advantages. Salary is within the Technical salary scales A-C GBP10,839-14,540 per annum inclusive of GBP2,262 per annum London Allowance. Closing date 31st August 1998.
